Tasers
May I first say that the tasering incident at Vancouver airport was most unfortunate, a sad and tragic incident, without doubt.
However, we can't just wag our judgemental fingers at the cops. What about the hundreds of airport employees who left that poor Polish guy alone for ten hours? What about the flight attendants -- didn't they notice he couldn't respond when they said, "Have a nice day!" as he left their plane? Or the hundreds of other workers who could have helped, had they taken the time to conscientiously do their jobs? How ironic -- all that money spent on making them bilingual -- and it didn't even help.
What about his mother? What stopped her from asking about her son's arrival time? Why didn't she ask someone, after there was no sign of him for several hours? If she tried, and an employee brushed her off, or if either the son or the mother was trying to solve the dilemma and they were disregarded or brushed off, then heads should roll.
My point is, the cops aren't the only ones to blame here! Sure, it's an unpleasant video to watch, but we are watching it with 20/20 hindsight. It's always easy to point fingers at the cops, especially tasering cops, even though they might have had reason to fear he was some drug-crazed unpredictable kook.
I'm glad there's going to be an inquiry. I regret that some lawyers will benefit the most, and the taxpayers will be further burdened, but if it's going to mean a weak link gets exposed in all this, then it will be worth it.
And to the pacifist anti-taser tree huggers who showed up at the funeral to get your point across, under the guise of really caring about this man and his family, SHAME ON YOU!!
